Inaugural Science Media Film Competition Now Accepting Submissions

JACKSON, WY.   The esteemed Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival is delighted to announce its latest initiative, the inaugural Jackson Hole Science Media Awards. For more than twenty years, the organization has hosted an unparalleled international film competition honoring the world’s finest examples of media on nature and environment themes. Jackson Hole Festival awards are prestigious, and recognized throughout the world as the most distinguished acknowledgement of excellence within the nature film genre.

According to Executive Director, Lisa Samford, the recently announced Science Media Awards are a logical outgrowth. “Science plays a profound role in our daily lives in ways that we can scarcely imagine, from the infinitesimal to the infinite,” she said. “The Jackson Hole Science Media Awards celebrate the development of engaging science-based media by recognizing innovative and entertaining work that promotes public awareness of scientific advancement.”

With 17 program, content and craft award categories, entries are invited from around the world. Submitted programs may be of any length, may originate in any format (including animation) and be produced for theatrical, television broadcast, internet, institutional or public media distribution. Programs must be completed between June 1, 2010 & May 31, 2012, but need not have been broadcast or publicly exhibited. The deadline for entry is June 1, 2012. All entries are eligible for the “Best of Festival” Award.

Finalists will be announced in July.  Final Judging is slated for early September in association with the JHWFF Symposium 2012, hosted at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Winners will be announced and honored at a Gala Awards Ceremony and Celebration. Media competition and entry details are available on the Festival website, http://www.jhfestival.org.
